Minor chords in major keys

by Bill on July 22, 2009

Below is a short video on some basic minor chord harmony for songwriters, building on some of the earlier material we covered on harmonic resolution. This looks at the minor chords (II, III and VI) in major keys.

If you need to work out basic chords and scales you can use the Piano World online tool or, for guitarists, Phillip Facoline’s excellent Ultimate Guitar Chord Chart (PDF, from the equally excellent Harmony Central).

Just in case you still find things unclear, I’ve put together a PDF table of the main chords - including majors and minors - in every major key.

(PS - I thought this was going to spread over into two vids, hence my remarks at the start of the footage. There isn’t one missing: I just managed to fit in what I wanted to say in less time that the YouTube 10-minute cut-off..)
